Businesses like yours are becoming increasingly dependent on IT and technology, but is your cyber security up to scratch?

Join us at our Cyber Security Seminar on 11 May to better understand the importance of data protection and the consequences of failing to meet the new General Data Protection Regulation that takes effect next year.

What will you learn?

Experienced hackers will perform live demos showing how servers and mobile phones just like yours are being hacked all over the country…and just how quickly and easily it can be done!

IT Security specialists, Sophos, will show you how you can take the necessary steps to prevent breaches to your data and Datto will discuss the importance of proper business continuity solutions for if the worst should happen.

Why do you need to know?

In 2018, the new General Data Protection Regulation could see your business fined 4% of your annual turnover if you haven’t taken the appropriate action!

It’s happening near you!

In 2015/16, UK businesses reported a 22 per cent increase in cybercrime, resulting in more than £1bn in losses, according to figures from Get Safe Online and the UK’s national fraud and cybercrime reporting centre Action Fraud.

In the West Midlands, there were 1,158 reported cases of cybercrime. London Metropolitan and Essex police forces received the highest volume of reports, with 5,742 and 2,505 respectively.

Still think you’re safe? Pop along to our seminar and find out how you can be sure….

Does your business have any rental or leasing arrangements? If so, IFRS 16 is the new accounting standard that could dramatically impact your business’s balance sheet, increasing debt, EBITDA, change your business value and much more.

There’s still time to be proactive, get prepared and make plans (earning some CPD points along the way!). Join us at our free morning event with BNP Paribas Real Estate to find out more.

Does your business rent or lease property, vehicles, equipment or anything else? If you do, you need to know all about the major changes coming up in leasing.

IFRS 16 is a new standard due to come into force in 2019. It means leasing arrangements that aren't currently on your balance sheet will now show up as an asset or liability. It could fundamentally change the way your financial statements look with implications for how the business is perceived, it's rating, dividend policy, bank covenants and bonus arrangements.

Join us on Friday 8 December to hear more and find out what you should do

As well as our panel of experts in accounting, property and banking, we’ll be joined by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). We'll also be joined by BNP Paribas' Elizabeth Cain, Head of Client Finance and hear about how software solutions can ease the transition.

Together, we’ll introduce IFRS 2016, talk about what it means for your business’ position and value, and then talk through what to do next so you go through a smooth transition.

Who’ve we invited?

We’ve invited businesses with property, both landlords and those with leased estates and any businesses who lease vehicles or equipment on a large scale. We’ve invited group financial controllers, financial directors, and property professionals.

But it’s not limited to people with certain job titles. To tackle IFRS 16 properly, you’ll need involve the right people from different areas of your business – including finance, property, tax, procurement, legal and logistics. Come if you’re interested and the changes affect you.

What will we talk about?

Audit Director, Catherine Kelly, will talk about the immediate impacts on accounting and financial statements, and what stakeholders you should involve from across your business. Cat will get into some of the detail and cover when IFRS 16 will start to affect you.

We’ll then hear from guest speakers. A banking expert will discuss the effect of the new rules from a banking and retail perspective. RICS will give the Industry view on the changes and what they mean for the future of Leasing. BNP Paribas Real Estate will talk about the practical application of the changes and how to make them work for you

More on our speakers

Catherine Kelly, Audit Director has been with PKF Cooper Parry for over 13 years and manages a portfolio of clients with a focus on large corporates and retail businesses.

Liz Cain is Head of Client Service at BNP Paribas Retail Estate, helping both investor and occupier clients.  She is also a member of the UK Property Management Executive and Operational Boards.

You must know a thing or two about cybercrime by now. What with all the latest news, the NHS meltdown in May and our constant reminders that businesses are more at risk than ever before from cybercriminals.

Here at PKF Cooper, brand is something hugely important to us. It’s a way of communicating our values and the way we are, all without the use of words. It creates an opportunity to show differences and create choices.

Not-for-profit brand loyalty depends upon connecting with audiences on an emotional level – and those deep connections can best be achieved through an authentic brand that communicates the unique, distinctive essence and purpose of the organisation.

We have invited a leading expert in brand strategy – Ollie Leggett, MD and Brand Consultant at IE – to talk about the importance of brand. He’ll describe how brands develop, how they reflect the organisations they represent – and the perils of straying from your core DNA.

It’s never just about a logo. It’s about finding your voice, defining your identity and enriching the conversation you’re having with your audiences – always ensuring your organisation’s core values are at the heart of everything you do.

About Ollie Leggett

A former teacher and charity trustee, Ollie has over two decades of not-for-profit brand experience, working with clients including Cranfield University, The Schools of King Edward VI in Birmingham, TeachFirst, the University of Birmingham, CLIC Sargent, pfeg and Career Ready.

The days of the traditional Insolvency Practitioner (IP) are over. Today's approach requires IPs to place salvation, preservation of value and a range of restructuring solutions before even thinking about the insolvency process. For businesses to have the best chance of turning things around, they need get their IP involved early, introduce them to the whole business cycle and stay positive. It’s not over until the fat lady sings.

Are your clients prepared for change?

PKF Cooper Parry's Restructuring Advisory team would like to invite you to a breakfast ‘Change’ seminar on
5 October 2017 from 8.00am - 10.15am at our new West Midlands office (One Central Boulevard, Blythe Valley Park, Solihull, West Midlands, B90 8BG).

The days of a traditional insolvency practitioner "sizing up the coffin", have long gone. Today's approach requires IPs to place salvation, preservation of enterprise value, and a comprehensive range of turnaround and restructuring solutions first and foremost, not just at the eleventh hour, but across the whole business lifecycle.

This seminar provides an insight into why being different is often a critical success factor in helping your clients achieve growth in an uncertain business environment. Success is not just about what your clients do but more often about why they do it.

You will hear:

  • Henrietta Brealey from the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce provide an update on local economic indicators and trends;
  • Tyrone Courtman will address the importance of being different and how PKF Cooper Parry's different approach is having a positive impact in transforming the business of its clients;
  • Fraser Dick from Perfection Alloys, a highly respected motor service business, will reflect on how losing sight of business fundamentals very nearly brought Perfections' business to an end and how PKF Cooper Parry brought them back from the brink of financial disaster.

We do hope you are able to join us and enjoy some thought provoking insight into the changing world of Restructuring, combined with the opportunity to network with likeminded professionals.
